Dörte BernerMy sculptures try to connect the past with the present and the human beings with the supernatural world. They combine the spiritual, moral and accepted values of our world an the cosmos. They strive to reveal a truth beyond a mundane world. The work expresses my individual identity and my relationship between the people an the land of Namibia, Africa. Natural stone is my working material. For me, it is part of the earth, transformed by the artist and yet still belonging to the earth and the universe. I believe that art is universal and that it is an essential medium of finding harmony and balance in a materialistic society. “Mythos” is the nearest possible to a visible, absolute truth. Sculptures represent experience transformed into visible shapes. They are not a formal aesthetic experiment nor an interpretation of reality. Each shape conceals its own meaning. The invisible hidden meaning of a sculpture is as important as the outward visible form. |
